February 2022

In February I finished my second set of roller skate lessons, got further in Lemmings than ever before, wrote a fanfic, and joined Emily's birthday celebrations in a Taskmaster-style video call.

Ems' birthday Taskmaster

Pete hosted as Taskmaster again, and prior to the call gave us around a week to make the "most powerful self-portrait". I fetched all the batteries in the house to make a very high voltage collage (pic above).

We also had to make a tribute to Meatloaf in ten minutes. Digital art maybe wasn't the best way to go for me, but here's what I got:

Finished skating lessons

I finished the second block of six skating lessons! This batch was mostly focussing on consistency and I feel like I picked up some new skills too. By the end of the block I was able to do crossovers naturally, transitions pretty well, and I was getting the hang of going backwards too.

I'm taking a break for the next block, but hoping to sign-up for the one after that.

Wrote another Sonic fanfic

I've been chatting a lot to Hayley, of AngelBless fame from my December entry, who's been keeping me engaged with Sonic the Comic and has drawn lots more fan-art since! It's all kept the wheels turning in my head on the fic I wrote in December, and in mid-Feb I had another idea formed for a sequel, which I got up onto Ao3 on the 25th after some hasty edits, both when discovering something contradictory in my read-through of the comic, and when Hayley posted a new bit of fanart that I really wanted to work into the story!

It's here if you want to read it ("Missing the Joke", 3341 words). I'm happy with it, though it doesn't seem to have had so many readers as the first part (19 hits at time of writing), which is probably inevitable, but I got one lovely comment on it, which really cheered me up.

I'm hoping to write one more, since there's an obvious finale to be had featuring Sonic himself, though my brain is still mulling on a plot for it.

Streaming Lemmings

I started streaming Lemmings on my Twitch streams and it turned out to be a really good choice of game for them! I can chat during gameplay, pause when I want to embellish on a topic, and have friends come join and help solve the levels too, which has been both very useful and very socially satisfying.

I've definitely got further than young Kathy did on her Amiga, and at the time of writing I've finished both Fun and Tricky, and started on the Taxing levels.

I also stuck some googly eyes on my streaming webcam to help remind me to look at the camera more.
