April 2013: York, house, and blossom
Saturday, 4 May 2013 10:32I'm afraid I don't have femputer's external drive up and running yet since the house move -- oh yes, I moved house! -- so there's no photos for this post. I'll do a dedicated York post once I've got the photos up.
At the start of the month, Emily and I took a lovely long weekend break in York. We stayed in a really nice Bed and Breakfast whose owner gave us a lot of non-touristy tips about where to go, and we had really good weather over the weekend too. We really have had fantastic luck with the weather on our UK holidays. Over the weekend we did pretty much all the things! including a lovely walk along the river out to Millennium Bridge (non-wobbly edition); a cheeky free view of the interior of York Minster by attending Evensong; a tour around "hidden York", including getting to see a bit of the original Roman wall; and of course a couple (okay, three) visits to the Railway Museum. We had a perfect weekend.
The rest of the month has been rather dominated by the house move. My buyer's mortgage offer expired the day after my eventual moving date, so there was a bit of a rush to get everything done by then, and we only ended up exchanging five days before the moving day. The move itself went well, although I was rather drained by the end of the day. I've been a bit overly emotional since moving in because of the sheer number of things on the todo list, but Emily and my family have been fantastic at picking me up and helping out with various jobs around the house. I've now got a more-or-less complete living room, which makes a huge difference. Next up is getting the bedroom liveable - the wallpaper and carpet have gone, next up is some polyfilling and sanding. My DIY muscles are certainly getting flexed at the moment! Poke me if you want my new address :)
Due to a couple of early starts at work I've had some extra time off in lieu, some of which I've spend on longer lunch breaks, lying in the grass in Green Park with Emily. Yesterday we had a sunny picnic under a blossom tree whose branches reached to the ground, and everything was well with the world.
