Daily update, Friday 2020-04-18
Saturday, 18 April 2020 21:42Today's gone pretty quickly, and though I suppose I have done a fair bit, I'm finding myself wishing I had more time.
Most of the morning was taken up with sorting out improvised plant pots and water trays so I could plant the courgettes and sweetcorn (the variety for baby sweetcorn) which my guide says needs to happen this weekend. For some reason I also looked up whether it's possible grow chickpea plants, having found some dried chickpeas in my cupboard, and it turns out you can, with a bit of luck with the outdoor temperature, so I've given that a go too. I'm supposed to use biodegradable pots for this since chickpea plants don't like being repotted, and apparently toilet roll tubes are good for this, so my somewhat embarrassing tendency to rarely take out the recycling from the bathroom has actually paid off. Anyway we'll see what happens! It's a very cheap failure if nothing else.
I was hoping to finish #3 of 04-in-04 tonight but I'm having trouble wrapping it up this evening. I could see this one turning into a full novel/novella at some point, if I were inclined to try to write a second full-length novel. Ironically this was one of the premises from my novel ideas list that I discounted because I didn't think it would hold up for a whole book.
This afternoon I also played a game of Lord of Waterdeep with Pete, Matt, Tim, and Emily. I came last but it was still fun. After that we played a couple of rounds of Codenames. Then I had a video call with my family, which took an hour and a half. My parents seem to be assuming that because they're often at a loss of what to do (cleaning ovens and the like out of boredom was mentioned) that everyone else must be too. Whereas I'm struggling to fit everything I wanted to do in! The gardening and 04-in-04 were already scheduled pre-coronavirus. I guess I wouldn't be doing the extra code project were it not for corona, but that's probably time I would have been using to go out to the countryside, so the time sink evens out.
