The Apple Tree (1900 words), story #2 of my 04-in-04 challenge! It's a… near future supernatural fantasy? Genres are hard. Taking a break between writing and editing helped with the editing, though.
(I should say I welcome constructive feedback on any of my creative work; these in particular were not month-long labours of love that I feel overly precious about, and feedback helps me improve!)
A surprise thing happened today that I'll put in a locked entry probably tomorrow. The timing of it could barely be better if it works out.
I inventoried my stockpile this evening and it really is just flour I'm short on, though I would also like some fresh and fridge goods, and a little more chocolate/biscuits would be nice. I wasn't ever expecting to actually test my Brexit stockpile, and I'd started running it down (hence running out of biscuits) but hadn't accounted for supply chains breaking when considering flour. However, I've found out that you can buy 16 and 25kg bags of strong white flour now, which I'm going to get if they ever become available again! I would easily get through 16kg of flour within its sell-by date; my only concern would be weevils getting into the bag and spoiling the whole batch, which was a frequent problem even with regular packs of flour during my childhood.
