April 2020
Sunday, 23 August 2020 15:08I did a few creative things in April, on top of making the best use of my stockpiles intended for Brexit at the start of the year, which I'd only just started using up before realising I'd need them for the coronavirus. I also spent a good amount of time hunting for flour online, since that particular shortage caught me a bit by surprise. Finally, I interviewed for a new job, and would later learn that I'd got it!
Writing ("04 in 04")
After successfully writing four short stories in April 2018 as a challenge to myself (and skipping 2019 because I was in the middle of moving home) I gave it another go this year. The stories are over on
kapellostories or on Fictionpress. I'm pleased with how I did (though the second episode of Space Croissant, which I wrote the first episode for in 2018) felt a little phoned in. The Apple Tree is my favourite, I think.

Photography
I took eleven photos of myself across the month and put them on my instagram account which had been sitting empty prior to that. I'm still not entirely sure what prompted me to start this but it was a nice exercise in being creative with the camera, and working out which of the outfits I owned at the time worked best on me.
My garden was also in bloom this month, and I had a lot of flowers I wasn't aware of, and even some bluebells! Gallery
I also walked to Attenborough Nature Reserve. It was too busy for me to feel comfortable going back but I got some nice photos on the day.

Flour
Flour was impossible to get from the supermarkets for a good couple of months, and I prefer to make my own bread (it means I don't need to go to the shops to buy another loaf ever week, as a bonus), so I ended up buying a 16kg sack from Shipton Mill, which itself was no mean feat since they were only opening the site for minutes a day until the day's stock sold out. I finally figured out when they were releasing, and placed my order. It arrived on the 27th.
I'm still going strong with it four months later at the time of writing, though it's starting to feel like I might reach the bottom in the next month or two. I'll probably ordered another sack; it's worked out well and been a good use of an otherwise empty cupboard!
