May was pretty quiet, but I did manage to have a second solitary Easter when I discovered that the shops had a lot of chocolate eggs discounted a few weeks after due to low demand. This was my last month of my previous job; I finished on Friday 29th. My new driving licence also arrived in the post, and I watched through all of the would-be Eurovision entrants on Youtube with Emily and Tim in a surrogate Eurovision evening. I also planted out most of the vegetables in the garden, and started growing some thyme and rosemary.

Insomnia walks

Early in the month I had a few nights of insomnia, probably due to the short nights, and on a couple of occasions I decided to get up after waking at 4 am and actually go for a walk while nobody else was around.

On the first occasion I walked to Toton Sidings, by following the tram line to its Park and Ride terminus, and carrying on across a couple of fields. The train sidings are the planned site of the HS2 Midlands station, and they're in quite a deep cutting, currently surrounded by public land which is a mix of trees and shrubland. The footpaths don't officially do straight down the bankside, but somone had tied up a set of guide ropes to help people get from the high path to the low path, so I used that and it was fun.

The soil was quite a deep red and stained my trainers a little. It reminded me of Kauaʻi island in Hawaii (well, a little).

By the time I got back up (the long way around) there were a few runners out and one woman doing yoga with a nice view over the railway sidings. There were also plenty of bunnies out, which was wonderful to see.

On the second day, I went off in a different direction, and ended up in Bramcote Woods, with a beautiful sky and setting full moon.

The woods themselves were a nice walk around, though I can imagine they'd be busy during the day as they're not huge. They're possibly an old estate or similar since there were some old structures still in place.

I got back just as the sun was starting to light up some rooftops, and took a selfie of myself on the way back that I don't entirely hate, despite having gone out basically straight from my pyjamas
