A fair bit of electronics this month, plus (of course) some Sonic stuff!Sonic the Comic job lot
I lucked into a relatively reasonably priced job lot of some of the 1999 (fifth year) issues of Sonic the Comic, so I've now got a lot of physical reading material instead of quite as many scans, which is nice!
It's taking me a little longer to get through them, but I think it's worth it.

USB fairy light conversion
I bought a set of fairy lights that takes 3 AA batteries to power it, but lacking rechargeable AA batteries, I wanted to adapt it to be used by a USB power pack. I figured the 4.5V the 3 AA batteries output was similar enough to the 5V that USB supplies, so set about modifying a short power-only USB cable.
I tidied the wiring up a bit, and added a small resistor to the setup to dim the LEDs a bit, which should lengthen their lifespan, and decrease the battery usage too.
Really pleased with this as a little hack, and you'll see these lights making an appearance in my next entry, because I took them to EMF Camp to light my tent!

Separately, I've got hold of a large red button, which I've always loved the look of. I'm trying to hook it up to a Trinket M0, which is like a mini-arduino, so I'll be able to get it to trigger an action on my laptop when that's plugged in. So far I have some code on the Trinket that can detect whether the button is pressed, and also lights up the button's built-in LED, but no communication with the laptop yet.

Wild garlic
This year I remembered where some wild garlic was growing last year, so I went off to the woods and collected some. I got there just in time, the leaves are best before the flowers arrive really.
I made garlic pesto with the leaves and some roasted hazelnuts, one of my favourites, and gosh it was a very strong but good one! I have put it in the freezer so I don't have to go full garlic for a week!

I didn't make it to EM-Con in the end, due to covid worries since it was only a few days before I was due to go to EMF Camp, but I did want to meet up with my friend Hayley (AngelBless) for the first time, so I cycled into town and met up with her and her siblings afterwards for some shopping. It was nice to meet a friend I'd only known online in real lie for the first time, it's been a long time since I've done that!
In town, I bought a novelty Sonic mug from Forbidden Planet, and some rainbow socks from a fancy dress shop, along with some Fruit Pastilles.
